Inflammation is categorised by Redness, Irritation, Sensitivity, Swelling and Heat. There are 3 key factors to consider when looking at Inflammation:
-
Acid Mantle health
-
Langerhans Cells strength
-
Capillary function
In the case of an impaired Acid Mantle, irritants are able to absorb into the skin too quickly, which leads to over stimulation of deeper cells.
Langerhans Cells are responsible for the skins immune response. In a strong healthy skin, we would see a large number of Langerhans Cells, all with long dendritic arms which provide very effective protection from bacteria, pathogens and irritants. In an inflamed skin, we often see an impaired skin immune function – less Langerhans Cells, and with damaged, shortened arms. This greatly reduces the effectiveness of the skins immunity and leads to excessive immune responses to small threats.
Over production and abnormal development of capillary networks within the skin can impair the delivery of oxygen and nutrients to the stem cells and melanocytes, essentially starving them. This results in stem cells and melanocyte function becoming sluggish – and our clients noticing pigment disorders and slow healing ability (breakouts leave marks and slow wound healing).
You may have one of the 3 key factors to consider, or it may be a combination of all 3.
If it is the Acid Mantle Health that we need to work on, the treatment is:
-
Remove any stripping ingredients from your routine, replace with nourishing and conditioning ingredients and supplement the diet with EFA’s.
-
Where we need to strengthen the Langerhans Cell function, topical Vitamin B3 is a wonderful support. It works as a tonic for the Langerhans Cells, helping them to become stronger and to re-lengthen their dendritic arms.
-
Topical Vitamin C can assist in building strong and healthy capillary networks. Skin needling can break down excess capillary networks and regulates the regrowth of new healthy structures.

Inflammation Rosacea
Rosacea is categorised by an over production of capillaries and thinning of the epidermal tissues.
It is a common misconception that calming and soothing is the best treatment method for a Rosacea skin. In fact, what is required is to rebuild and restrengthen the skin.
High strength Vitamin A is a key component for correcting rosacea as it will correct DNA damage and restore correct cell function.
Vitamin B3 helps to restore the natural inflammatory response and avoid the excessive response which is normal in a Rosacea skin.
Skin Needling breaks down the excess capillary networks and due to the release of growth factors, manages the correct production of new capillaries.
